News:Summer 2010 Fishing Report
7/11/2010
The Black Salmon season was as expected, very slow. Very slow due to the fact that the ice went out three weeks early, April 11, 2010, as did the fish. There were catches of black salmon through the first two weeks of May, but nothing compared to a normal year. By the middle of May, bright salmon were being caught.
The big, multi-sea, winter fish entered the Restigouche River lasting a couple of days. Both Jeff Canova and Jim Romanyak, caught bright salmon in the 25 pound range in the Restigouche River during this timeframe.
The last part of May was slow, with few salmon reported being caught, and very few fisherman on the river. The first week of June saw a small run of fish entering the Matapedia River, with some large fish being caught in the 30-pound range.
A large run of fish entered the Matapédia River on the 23rd of June, and the fishing is the best it has been in quite a few years. Each day fish are being seen rising, jumping and others being caught. The water levels are low, and the water temperatures generally good, between 58° and 65°, creeping up to 68°.
For those of you who have not made any reservations for fishing the Gaspé in August, we have a few open dates. August, according to the record books, is the most productive month of the season. Dry fly fishing is the main game in August. Big bombers and bombers of all sizes are used. Blue, brown and yellow are the most popular colors.
