News:Restigouche River Black Salmon Fishing
6/1/2010
The black salmon fishing on the Restigouche River got a very early start this year. This year the ice left the river on the 12th of April, some three weeks earlier than normal. The season officially begins in New Brunswick on April 15,th but is usually postponed due to ice out which normally occurs the last week in April on the Restigouche River. The few fishermen that were there did very well. Most of the fishermen make their reservations a year in advance and by the time they arrived the majority of the black salmon had already returned to the sea. The first week of May saw few fish caught, but by the 10th of May some big bright salmon were being caught. Jim Romanyak, on the 14th of May, caught a bright fish in the 25lb range. Jeff Canova had lost a big fish a day earlier. I know of 5 other bright fish that were taken the second week of May.
