News:December Steelhead Fishing Report

Reports from the eastern end of Lake Ontario was very good. The cold and the snow did hinder the fishing at times, but with an average snow fall of over 200 inches you are bound to have some poor fishing days. The months of Janu-ary and February are months for big fish. These months produce some Steelhead in the 20lb. class. If you can withstand the cold weather, you will find the fishing well worth the 5 hour drive from the Boston area. Look for a warm spell and head for the Salmon River. It is always worth your while to contact Whitaker’s Sport Shop (315-298-6162) in Pulaski to get water levels and an honest fishing report. The time to stay away from this fishery is during the last 10 days of March and the first 10 days of April due to the high water and the majority of the fish on the spawn. It is my belief the best spring fishing is from April 15th thru May 1st. I will be in the Pulaski area from April 10 thru April 26 guiding and teaching the art of spey casting. I do have a few open dates during this time period.
