News:Matapedia Salmon Fishing Begins on June 1st
6/1/2010
The salmon fishing on the Matapedia begins on the 1st of June. With the ice going out early and a late full moon in May, the first part of June should be very good fishing. If I were a betting man, I would say the first two or three weeks of June should be excellent fishing. If you can spare the time, think about a trip to the Gaspé for the big bright salmon in the 15 to 40 lbs range. To me this is the best time of the year because the fish are big and there is not any pressure on the river. The area knows as “The Forks” (or “Les Fourches”), where the Matapédia and the Causapscal rivers meet, one of the best and more popular public sections of the Matapédia river to fish. For more information on other areas to fish while on the Matapédia, please feel to give me a call or stop by the lodge. Those of you who have not made any reservations don’t miss out on what could be the best part of the 2010 season. Our Lodge, the Chapelle Lodge has some openings in the early part of June.
