News:Gaspésie News 2010 Outlook & Black Salmon
3/1/2010
The statistics on the Gaspé Salmon Rivers for last year are somewhat confusing. The counts of multi-sea winter fish were larger than expected and the number of grilse were lower than expected. Last year, as most of you know, was a year of extremely low water. I was under the opinion that the catch rates were down, really down, but according to those in the know this was not the case. The outlook for the 2010 season seems to be on the bright side with a larger return of grilse than normal, and an increase in fish in the 20lb range.
The black Salmon season on the Restigouche River will start on ice out, usually around May 1st. If you have never been black salmon fishing, it’s something you might want try. The fish are very aggressive and 5 to 6 fish a day is about average. Boats and a guide are neces-sary due to the high fast water. We have trips starting as low as $300/day which includes room, meals, license, water fees, boat and guide. Spey instruction, both individual and group can be arranged for this time frame as well.
